Basel has a diverse range of foods available to eat. Everything from Thai to American to German is available. However, if you are wanting to try typical, traditional dishes Swiss dishes in Basel, here’s what to look for:

  • Fondue (cheese, champagne, oil)
  • Raclette (melted cheese served with potatoes, gherkins, and onions)
  • Alplermagronen (au gratin potatoes with macaroni, cheese, cream, and onions)
  • Rosti (A flat potato pancake made from grated potatoes and fried in butter or oil)
  • Swiss chocolate (enough said)
  • Swiss cheese (each county has its own recipe)
  • Flour soup (served with cheese and onion tart)
  • Suuri Laaberli (sour liver strips)
  • Massmogge (colorful sweets filled with a hazelnut mixture)
  • Sausages
  • Chocolate
  • Chocolate lava cake
  • White asparagus
